our clients approached us to renovate this aging 3-bedroom/2-bathroom bungalow while expanding its small 2nd story to include 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a play space for their children.
two of the home’s original bedrooms were located at the 1st story, which reduced the size of the living areas while producing an undesirable floor plan. by moving these to the 2nd story addition, we reconfigured the 1st story and removed some walls to increase its function by adding a family room and study to supplement the existing living room, dining room, kitchen and entry spaces. additionally, all of the interior finishes and fixtures were replaced to achieve a bright and contemporary design.
the rear of the original house had a poor connection to the neglected yard due to a dilapidated addition that was added years prior. by demolishing it and adding large doors and windows, the new kitchen and family room have a direct and open connection to the new deck and yard. the historic character of the home's facade remained unchanged because the addition was added to the rear of the house, justifying its modern application of floating cedar siding. the home's colors we also updated to a more contemporary color scheme that compliments the cedar detailing.
